Mal Williams - is a freelance television cameraman & director - a videographer with high production values who not only delivers the pictures but has a keen eye for storytelling. Originally trained in News at TVNZ Mal moved to industry heavyweights Communicator and has since worked for many major overseas networks & have travelled extensively throughout the world shooting pictures. Although he enjoys working with a crew he has specialised in and pioneered in NZ the high pressure environment of OPC film making, where the cameraman is responsible for directing, shooting pictures and recording sound. These skills have enabled him to record missile launches from helicopters through police high speed pursuits to grizzly bears in the wild. Over the past few years Mal has focused on shooting at sea, from filming live racing aboard AC45 catamarans to several NZ fishing shows. Mal recently returned from a 3 week voyage on a deep sea trawler fishing off the Auckland Islands successfully filming live underwater footage of the trawl net working at over 1000m for the first time. Although totally at home with all formats, Mal specialised in shooting HD for the last 10 years and is very experienced at providing technical expertise. Mal live in Auckland with my wife and two teenage kids and consider myself very lucky to be able to make a living making beautiful pictures.
